Delectable Spring Mountains Terry's way

DELECTABLE MOUNTAINS.
TERRY'S WAY.

The original pattern came from the book "Encyclopedia of classic
Quilt Patterns" by Leisure Arts. The pattern can be found on page 76
with hundreds of cut tiny pieces. After hours of figuring out the best
way to do this, I tried this method and it was wonderful to do, and of course
much quicker.
recently in one of the magazines from 2020 it was written again differently
by someone else.
I give credit to two authors for this technique.
Make it Simpler by Anita Grossman Solomon
Magic Base Blocks by Patty Barney and
Cooky Schock.
I have not published this way of doing things anywhere else
If anyone would like a copy of the printed paper please contact me.
I used newsprint cut sheets for this as the paper is much lighter to use.

1.This is what I drafted twice on a piece of paper
to make 2, FPP copies, cut apart

2. Use 1 background and 1 accent fabric 5 inch squares
per unit.

3.Pin a printed FPP paper on the background side
only need two pins

4.Stitch on the inside and outside sewing lines
of the 3 marked squares only.

5.Trim on the outside lines to 4.5"

6.Cut in half vertically

7.cut into quarters horizontally

8.Separate the unstitched square pieces
cut the BG piece into a 1 7/8" square.

9.Cut the accent fabric in half on the diagonal

10.Cut the sewn squares in half to make
6 units

11.This is what you should have

12.remove the papers

13.Trim the corners of the 6 squares
finger or press the seams either open or to the dark.

At this point I usually staple the units together and place them in a bag (these are my "peanuts") When I am ready to sew, take one remove the staple and begin the next step,

PART 2: CONSTRUCTION AND SEWING:  NB unfortunately these are not in sequence so please read instructions and follow the numbers through carefully

1.Start laying out the blocks with the small square
at the top on point
3.Begin chain piecing blocks into towsies starting from the
lower triangle  on the right
but not the square block at the top yet and end with the last two on the left.

2.Build up the blocks with the colored fabrics
facing inwards and the ends facing down
as shown
4.Join the twosie groups together to make the left and right, then add the plain square to the top of the right side row of blocks press toward the plain square.

CUT A 5" SQUARES ONCE ON THE DIAGONAL
FOR THE BODY OF THE TRIANGLES.

5.Join the twosies together making sure they all face the correct way
6.Add the shorter pieced unit to the left of the body triangle,
finger press seams towards the larger piece

Then add the right side with the square
Should look  like this.
Press seams inward toward the large triangle

          Completed block

CUT BACKGROUND SQUARES 7 3/4" ONCE DIAGONALLY
TO MAKE THE LARGER TRIANGLE TO COMPLETE THE BLOCK
